Whether you are wanting to grow a sorghum for an edible grain or for decorative purposes, this broom corn from Mongolia will fit the bill!  Unlike many sorghum varieties, Ba Ye Qi matures well for us even if direct sown here in Ontario in our zone 5b.  Tall (7-8') plants produce greenish flowers with yellow stamens, followed by conical seed heads with reddish-orange seeds. This is a great choice for grain production as the grains are easily removed from the seed heads or a wonderful choice as an ornamental for fall decorative work.  The heads are also very beautiful dried!
