Blackberry Lily (Freckle Face) (Iris)
Blackberry Lily is actually a member of the iris family (not a lily) and is a perennial that adds both cheerful orange flowers with darker freckles on each petal as well as beautiful pods that open to reveal striking black seeds that look like blackberries! The butterflies love the flowers and though the flowers do not last long in the vase, the pods can be used green in fresh flower arrangements, dried for everlasting flower bouquets (cut when pods are just beginning to pop open to reveal the black seeds and hang upside down to dry), or left in the garden to add whimsy and interest. Though these seeds look like blackberries, they are NOT edible! Like all irises, full sun is required with good drainage.
Please note that this seed requires cold stratification to germinate which can be achieved either by a late fall/early winter sowing to allow nature to do the stratification for you or by soaking seeds in spring for 24 hrs, drying off and placing in fridge for 30 days and then sowing into warmth indoors to get them growing. It may take up to 3 years to achieve blooms from seed grown Blackberry lilies.
Approx. 30 seeds/packet.
